Welcome to the St Rene Library

Library class at St. Rene consists of author studies for grades PreK through 2nd and monthly themes followed by related activities.  Third through fifth grades participate in a novel study in October and November and various themes for the remaining months of the school year.  Students in grades sixth through eighth use the library as a resource center to study, complete assignments, and choose books.  First through eighth grade students can sign out books during their library periods.

Star Reader

Star Reader is a program used in grades first through eighth to assess the reading level of our students.  Each student is given a reading range (or Zone of Proximal Development) that is used when choosing Accelerated Reader books.  Reading books within this range offers optimal development in reading skills.

Accelerated Reader

Accelerated Reader is a program used in grades first through eighth, which assesses students’ comprehension of books read.  After acquiring the reading range (or Zone of Proximal Development) from the Star Reader test, students choose books within that range.  After reading the book, students take an online quiz.  Depending on the book, it could have as little as five questions and as much as twenty.  A score of 60% is passing, but they need a score of 80-85% to be considered to have mastered the material in the book.
