  • 1st consequence: Warning. Name written on board.
  • 2nd consequence: One check after name.  5-10 minute loss of recess depending on situation.
  • 3rd consequence: Two checks. Loss of recess. Student will complete a behavior form that parents will sign and return to the teacher.
  • 4th consequence: Three checks. Parents will be called.
  • Continued disruption in class will result in a conference with parents, teacher, and principal.

Positive Rewards

  • Positive behavior and academic progress will be awarded with oral praise, written comments, stickers, and/or occasional awards and prizes.
  • Student of the week awards and writing awards will be given out weekly.
  • Student’s schoolwork and art projects will be displayed in the classroom and the hallway.
  • Birthdays will be celebrated by an announcement over the P.A. system, being sung to in the classroom, receiving a certificate and ribbon, a prize, and the class birthday bear on the student’s desk. Students are not able to bring in food for their birthday. Students may pass out pencils, erasers, donate a book or game to the classroom, or choose not to participate in giving anything. The student’s birthday will still be celebrated with the class if they choose to not bring anything.
  • Classroom jobs will be assigned to install pride in the classroom and teach responsibility.

Homework Assignments

  • Homework is assigned Monday through Thursday.
    • Flashcards should be practiced daily, including weekends.
  • Homework is written down every day during the second washroom break in assignment books provided by St. Rene Goupil School.
    • The teacher will check and stamp the assignment book each day.
  • Recommended homework time for Grade 3 is 30 minutes. Additional time may be needed for studying.
  • Homework should be done in blue or black erasable ink, except Math and Handwriting, which should be done in pencil.
  • Homework should be done at a fixed time and in a quiet place for the student to work and study.
  • Homework is the responsibility of the student.
    • A parent may clarify the work but should not do the student’s homework.
  • An absent student’s class work and homework will be written down on a homework sheet. The absent student will have the amount of days he/she was absent to make up the work, depending on the amount of work missed.
  • Homework will not be given ahead of time for students who are absent due to vacation.
    • Class work and homework will be made up once the student returns.
    • This may require missing recess and/or specials to make up missed tests and quizzes.
  • Students that continuously hand in late or incomplete homework assignments will miss recess in order to make up any late work.
    • Homework points will be deducted from the total score.
    • Students will be allowed three missing assignments per trimester. On the fourth missing assignment and every missing one after, students will miss recess. If a student has six or missing assignments per trimester, extra work will be given.
    • All late or incomplete homework must be handed in the next school day, or it will be counted as another missing assignment.
  • If all students bring in their homework on a given day, a letter will be given on the chalkboard to spell a phrase in order to receive a special award for the class. The letters may spell out extra recess day, movie fun day, show and tell day, ice cream day, etc. Once all the letters are earned to spell out the phrase, the teacher will provide the special award, and a new phrase will need to be earned.
