Welcome to 1st Grade!

Welcome to first grade!  I look forward to working with you and your child during the upcoming school year.  Parents are a key factor in children’s achievements in school. Together we will make this a very rewarding and enjoyable year for your child.  The support and encouragement you offer your child today will lay the foundation for future academic success.

As we embark on a productive school year, I have developed a classroom discipline plan which affords every student guidance in making good choices about his/her behavior.  This plan provides an opportunity for every child to learn in a positive, nurturing, and peaceful classroom environment. Your child deserves the most positive educational climate possible for his/her growth.  To encourage appropriate behavior in and out of the classroom, I use positive rewards and incentives as well as recognizing good work habits with praise and positive notes and phone calls.

Homework is assigned Monday through Thursday and are a review of material covered in class.  First grade homework will never be an introduction to new skills.  Please encourage your child to read or be read to for at least 15 minutes daily.  Provide opportunities for your child to practice basic addition and subtraction math facts to develop computational fluency.  Knowledge of math facts is the foundation for success in all other mathematical functions.

All school correspondence, graded papers, and homework assignments are placed in your child’s green school/home folder.  Please check the folder daily for important papers.  When sending correspondence to school, please place it in your child’s folder for safe transport to school.

Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns you may have.  I am so very fortunate to work with so many wonderful families.  Thank you for entrusting your child to St. Rene Goupil School.
