Meet Your Teacher – Ms. Maciag

My name is Lauren Maciag and I am the 2nd grade teacher at St. Rene. I currently live on the South Side of Chicago with my dog Bronx and my cat Bebe. I graduated from the University of Illinois at Chicago with my degree in Urban Elementary Education with a focus on psychology and social studies. Before I joined St. Rene I was working with students in Englewood in an after school program. I also volunteer on Saturday mornings teaching adults English at the Eerie House in Chicago.
I am passionate about teaching and I am grateful that I am able to have a career that I love! My philosophy of teaching is based on creating a safe, welcoming space where our students can learn and grow. I am also passionate about teaching in a Catholic school since I was also a recipient of a Catholic education. I attended St. Thomas Moore until 1st grade, then St. Catherine’s until 8th grade, and finally I graduated from Mother McAuley high school. I feel truly blessed to be able to teach at St. Rene and I am excited to become a part of such a wonderful learning community!
