Meet Your Teacher – Mr. Velon

Introduction

Hello!  My name is George Velon, and I am the 6th grade teacher here at St. Rene parish.  I graduated from Trinity Christian College with licensing to teach Elementary and Special Education.  My dual certification in elementary, as well as special education, make me uniquely qualified to provide services to general education students, as well as those students in the classroom with special needs.  I am married to my lovely wife, and we are blessed with three wonderful children.  I am excited to be here at St. Rene, and am honored to be a part of sixth grade’s Catholic education.

Philosophy of Education

I am a former design engineer in the tool and die metal trade, who made the decision to change careers.  After much prayer, I found I was being called to teach.  Myself, a recipient of a Catholic education, I feel blessed to now be able to give something back to the community with my new career.  I firmly believe every child is entitled to an enriching education, respect, professionalism, and a safe environment in which to learn and grow.  As an educator, I work to make a difference in the life of every child during the course of each and every day.  I strive to provide a stimulating learning environment, one that fosters confidence and encourages children to reach their full potential.  I take the responsibilities of an educator very seriously, and work hard to develop mutual respect and trust from students, parents, fellow educators, and administration alike.  It is my philosophy that faith goes hand in hand with academics.  Founded in 1959 by Fr. Edward M. Flannery, St. Rene has been a pillar of Catholic education excellence in the Clearing community for over fifty years.  I recognize the importance of leading by example for the children who are in my charge, and strive to give something back to the community.  Since the spring of 2006, I have ushered the 10:15am mass at my home parish, and am a 4th Degree Knight of Columbus.

St. Rene Experience

Teaching here at St. Rene has been a truly rewarding experience.  From the administration, to the staff, to the students, St. Rene is a reflection of what a Catholic community should truly be.  I feel blessed to be part of such a role model institution, and to be able to work among and learn from some of the finest educators in the field.
